CUET2026-Pipes and Cisterns-23/02/2026

We welcome you in CUET2026-Pipes and Cisterns-23/02/2026

Today’s post on CUET2026-Pipes and Cisterns is as follow:

Q 4185) Two taps A and B can fill a tank in 20 min and 30 min, separately. If both the pipes are opened together at 8 : 30 AM,  when will the tank be filled?

(A) 8 : 42 AM   (B) 8 : 56 AM  (C) 9 : 12 AM  (D) 9 : 24 AM

Ans: (A) 8 : 42 AM

Solution:

Taps    I    Time taken    I    Efficiency     I    Capacity of Tank    I   Total Time Taken  = Total Work / Total Efficiency

A                 20min                 3L                     LCM 60L                                              =60 / 5  = 12 min.

B                 30min                 2L

Total Efficiency                       5L

Important Note:

(i) Time T means the time taken to fill up the tank;

(ii) Efficiency means the measurement of the liquid filled up in tank  in one unit time. It is calculated by dividing  capacity of tank by time taken to be filled up the tank. Incase Inlet pipe we use +Efficiency and in Outlet pipe -Efficiency.

(iii) Total Efficiency =5L

(iv) Total Work = Capacity of tank = 60L. Total Work is the LCM of 20 and 30. LCM means the figure, which is divisible by both 20 and 30)

(v) Total Time taken, when both pipes are opened =Total Work / Total Efficiency

Q 4186) An outlet tap can empty a tank in 4 h. In what time will the tap empty 1/4 part of the tank ?

(A) 1 h  (B) 1 1/2 h    (C) 1 1/4 h   (D) None of these

Ans: (A) 1h

Q 4187) A tap P can fill a tank in 3/5 h and a another tap Q can empty that tank in 90 min. If they are opened together then how much time will they take to fill the tank?

(A) 1 h    (B) 1 1/4 h    (C) 1 1/2 h    (D) None of these

Ans: (A) 1 h

Solution:

Taps    I    Time taken    I    Efficiency     I    Capacity of Tank    I   Total Time Taken  = Total Work / Total Efficiency

P          3/5 h = 36 min           10                   = LCM = 360                                        = 360 / 6 = 60 min =1 h

Q                      90 min           -4

Total Efficiency                        6

Q 4188) Tap A can fill a tank in 3 hours while tap B can empty it in 4 h. If they opened together then how much time will they take to emplty a filled tank?

(A) 8 h    (B) 10 h    (C) 12 h    (D) 14 h

Ans: (C) 12 h

Solution

Taps    I    Time taken    I    Efficiency     I    Capacity of Tank    I   Total Time Taken  = Total Work / Total Efficiency

A                  3 h                   4                        LCM = 12                                            =12 / 1 = 12 h

B                  4 h                 – 3

Total efficiency                    1
