Solution:

Suppose, the number is y.

According to question, y+7y=72;  or, 8y=72; or, y=72/8=9

Q 2589) 20% of 810 + 10% of 480 =  ? % of 2100

(A) 6%    (B) 8%     (C) 10%     (D) 12%

Ans: (C) 10%

Solution:

20/100 x 810 + 10/100 x 480 = ?/100 x 2100

162 + 48 = ? x 21;  or 210 = ? x 21; or, ? = 210/21 = 10%

Q 2590) The ratio of the sum of and the difference between two numbers is    3 : 2. The ratio of these two numbers is —

(A) 3 : 2    (B) 2 : 3    (C) 5 : 1    (D) 1 : 5

Ans: (C) 5 : 1

Solution:

Suppose the two numbers are y and z respectively.

According to question, y + z / y – z = 3/2;  or, 2 y + 2 z = 3 y – 3 z

or,  2 z + 3 z  = 3 y – 2 y;  or, 5 z = y;  or, 5 z / y = 5 : 1

Q 2592) The length of a rectangle is 2 cm more than its width. Its perimeter is 20 cm, then the area of rectangle is —

Ans: (D) 24 sq cm

Solution:

Suppose the length of rectangle is y cm.

According to the question, 2(y + y-2) = 20; or, 2y+2y-4 =20;

4y-4=20; or, 4y=20+4=24

y=24/4= 6

Area = y (y-2) = 6 (6-2)= 24 sq cm.
