Boat and Stream-21/02/2026
We welcome you in Boat and Stream-21/02/2026
Today’s post onBoat and Stream is as follow:
Q 4178) If the speed of a boat in still water is 4 km/h and the rate of streamis 2 km/h, then the upstream speed of the boat will be ?
(A) 2 km/h (B) 3 km/h (C) 4 km/h (D) None of these
Ans: (A) 2 km/h
Solution:
As given, speed of the boat, x = 4 km/h and
speed of the stream, y = 2 km/h
∴ Speed upstream = x – y = 4 – 2 = 2 km/h
Q 4179) A swimmer can row with a speed of 5 km/ph in still water. What will be his speed with the stream, if the speed of stream is 2 km/h ?
(A) 3 km/h (B) 3.5 km/h (C) 7 km/h (D) None of these
Ans: (C) 7 km/h
Solution:
As given, The speed of the swimmer in still water, x = 5 km/h and
Speed of the stream, y = 2 km/h
∴ Speed downstream = x + y = 5 + 2 = 7 km/h
Q 4180) A boat take 4 h to row 24 km downstream, and 12 h to row the same distance upstream. What will be the boat’s rate in still water and the rate of current ?
(A) 2 km/h and 1 km/h (B) 3 km/h and 2 km/h (C) 4 km/h and 2 km/h (D) None of these
Ans: (C) 4 km/h and 2 km/h
Solution:
As given, speed downstream = Distance / Time = 24/4 =6 km/h, and
speed upstream = Distance / Time = 24/12 = 2 km/h.
Therefore, rate of boat in still water = 1/2 (Speed downstream + Speed upstream) = (6 + 2) / 2 = 8/2 = 4 km/h
and rate of current = 1/2 (Speed downstream – Speed upstream) = (6 – 2) / 2 = 4/2 = 2 km/h
