Our today’s post is on Syllogism. Syllogism is a topic of arguing in which two or more statements are used to prove some other statements that they are follow(s) or not. In this topic we will learn syllogism by using Venn diagram as given below:
Q 3900) Read the given statements and conclusions carefully, assuming that the information given in the statements is true, even if it appears to be at variance with the commonly known facts. Decide which of the given conclusions logically follow(s) from the statements.
Statements:
Some keys are chains.
All chains are locks.
No lock is a rock.
Conclusions:
(I) No rock is a key.
(II) At least some keys are locks.
- Only conclusion I follows.
- Only conclusion II follows.
- Both conclusions I and II follow.
- None of the conclusion follow.
(Question asked in SSC exam held on July 01, 2024. These types of questions are also asked in CUET exam.)
Ans: (2) Only conclusion II follows.
Solution:
Using Venn diagram the problem is solved as below:
दोस्तों, जब हम कहते है, “No lock is a rock”, it means not only lock, chain also is not a rock, because all chains are locks. लेकिन रॉक/ कुछ रॉक्स/ सारी की सारी रॉक्स तो key(s) हो भी सकती है और नहीं भी. इन पर तो कोई बंदिश नहीं है. यही तो समझने वाली बात है इस question मे. Apply your mind….., अगर फिर भी समझ नहीं आए तो प्लीज कमेंट बॉक्स मे लिख कर हमसे पूछें.
इस question मे अगर हम यह मानले सारी की सारी रॉक्स key(s), Locks and Chains नहीं है तो we can draw the Venn diagram like this, as shown below:
In the above question if “some rocks are keys” then, we can draw the Venn diagram like this, as shown below:
