Important Formulae:

(1) Gain% =Gain/CP x 100%

(2) Loss% = Loss/CP x 100%

(3) SP= (100+Gain%/100) x CP

(4) SP= (100-Loss%/100) x CP

(5) CP= (100/100+Gain%) x SP

(6) CP= (100/100-Loss%) x SP

Q 3573) P, sells an article to Q at a profit of 20% and Q sells it to R at a profit of 20%. If R pay Rs. 360 for it, what was the cost price for P?

(A) Rs.120    (B) Rs.144    (C) Rs. 250    (D) Rs.180

Ans: (C) Rs. 250

Solution:

Let cost price for P be 𝑥. Then according to the question:

𝑥 x (100+20)/100 x (100+20)/100 = Rs. 360

𝑥 x 120/100 x 120/100 = Rs. 360

𝑥 = Rs. 360 x 100/120 x 100/120 = Rs. 250

Q 3574) A, bought pens at a rate of 10 pens for Rs. 50 and sold 11 pens at a rate of Rs. 44. Then, what will be profit or loss per cent?

(A) 20%    (B) 25%    (C) 28%   (D) 30%

Ans: (B) 25%

Solution:

According to the question, cost price for 1 pen be Rs. 5 and sell price be Rs. 4

Here, CP is more then SP.

∴ Loss per cent=CP-SP/CP x 100% =5-4/4 x 100% =1/4 x 100% =100/4= 25%

Q 3575) The CP of 18 pears is same as the SP of 16 pears. Find the gain%.

(A) 11%    (B) 11.5%    (C) 12%   (D) 12.5%

Ans: (D) 12.5%

Solution:

Let the CP of 1 pear =Rupee 1, ∴ CP of 18 pears will be Rs.18

∴ SP of 16 pears will be Rs.18

∴ Profit %= SP-CP/CP= 18-16/16 x100%= 2/16×100% =12.5%

Q 3576) Hundred apples were bought for Rs. 300. Out of these four were rotten and the rest were sold at Rs. 50 per dozen. Then, the net profit is? (CUET UG 2023)

(A) Rs. 50    (B) Rs. 100    (C) Rs. 125   (D) Rs. 150

Ans: (B) Rs. 100

Solution:

Cost price of 100 apples = Rs. 300

4 apples were rotten, ∴ SP of 8 dozen apples= 8×50=Rs. 400

∴ Gain=SP-CP= 400-300= Rs.100

Q 3577) An item is bought for Rs. 250. What should be its selling price, so as to gain 10% as profit?

(A) Rs. 275    (B) Rs. 375    (C) Rs. 475    (D) Rs. 400

Ans: (A) Rs. 275

Solution:

Given, CP Rs. 250, Gain = 10%

SP= (100+Gain% /100) x CP = (100+10/100) x 250 = Rs. 275
