Q 1) A shopkeeper earned a profit by selling an item, which is three times the discount offered. If the discount offered is 6.25%, what is his profit percentage ?
(A) 10% (B) 15% (C) 20% (D) 25%
Ans: (D) 25%
Solution: SP = Rs.100 Less Discount Rs. 6.25, Less Profit Rs.18.75 = CP Rs.75
Profit percentage = Profit/CP x 100= 18.75/75 x 100 = 25%
Q 2) In the given question, a statement is given followed by some conclusions. Choose the conclusion(s) which logically follow(s) the given statement.
Statement: Few shops on this road have neon lights, but they all have signboards.
Conclusions: (I) Some shops have either signboards or neon lights (II) Some shops have both signboards and neon lights (III) Some shops have no signboards (IV) Some shops have no neon lights.
The conclusion(s) correctly drawn is/are:
(A) (I) alone
(B) (III) alone
(C) (III) and (IV)
(D) (II) and (IV)
Ans: (D) (II) and (IV)
Questions 3 to 4:
Q 3) Anubhav spent 14% of his income on electricity bills, 28% on rent and 18% on shopping. If 1/4th of the remaining amount is Rs. 5,120, how much did he spend on electricity bills ?
Ans: Anubhav spent 14% + 28% + 18% = 60% on electricity bills, rent and shopping. The balance remains 40%. As per question, 1/4th of the remaining figure is Rs. 5120 and 1/4th of the 40% is 10%. It means 10% is equal to Rs. 5120 and 14% on electricity bills is 5120/10 x 14 = Rs. 7168.
Q 4) The sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 10. If 18 is subtracted from it, the digits in the resulting number will be equal. The number is:
(A) 73 (B) 74 (C) 64 (D) 65
Ans: (A) 73
As per question, the sum of the digits of a two-digit number is 10, it means (A) or (C) may be correct, because in (A) 7+3=10 and in (C) 6+4=10.
After deducting 18 from 73, the resulting number will be 55, in which both the digits are equal, hence (A) is correct. In case (C), after deducting 18 from 64, the resulting number will be 46, in which both the digits are different, hence (C) is wrong.
Questions 5 to 8:
Q 5) Aman can do 50% of the job in 16 days, and B can do 25% of the job in 24 days. In how many days can they do 1/4th of the job working together ?
(A) 12 days (B) 10 days (C) 8 days (D) 6 days
Ans: (D) 6 days
Solution: According to the question, A can do 1/4 th of a job in 8 days and B can do 1/4 of the same job in 24 days.
A can do 1/4 th of a job in 1 day =1/8 and B can do 1/4 of the same job in 1 day = 1/ 24
Working together A and B will do 1/8+1/24 =3+1/24 =4/24 of the job in 1 day.
Therefore, as per question, 1/4 th of the job will be completed in 24/4 =6 days

(A) 99 (B) 95 (C) 92 (D) 90
Ans: (B) 95
Solution:
Suppose the number of ducks are y and number of rabbits are z.
According to the question y+z=160; or, z=160-y
and 2y+4z=450; or, 2y+4(160-y)=450; or, 2y+640-4y=450

E5J, E comes at 5th number and after E, J comes at 5th number.
G7N, G comes at 7th number and after G, N comes at 7th number.
Thus, in K11V, K comes at 11th number and after K, V comes at 11th number.
Finally, in M13Z, M comes at 13th number and after M, Z comes at 13th number.

Question No. 31 to 34:
Q 31) The total population of a town is 50,000. The number of males and females increases by 10% and 15% respectively and consequently the population of the town becomes 56,000. What was the number of males in the town ?
(A) 20,000 (B) 30,000 (C) 35,000 (D) 40,000
Ans: (B) As given if males are 30,000 then females are 20,000
Males 10% increase = 30,000 x 10% = 3,000; Total 30,000+3,000=33,000
Females 15% increase= 20,000 x15% =3,000; Total 20,000+3,000=23,000
Total Males and females = 33,000 + 23,000= 56,000.

Question No. 35 to 36:
Q 35) In 80 litres mixture of milk and water, the ratio of amount of milk to that of amount of water is 7 : 3. In order to make this ratio 2 : 1, how many litres of water should be added ?
Ans: 4 litres.
Solution: As given in the question, total mixture = 80 litres and the ratio of milk and water = 7 : 3. It means in mixture milk = 7/10 x 80 = 56 litres and water = 3/10 x 80 =24 litres.
Suppose, y litres of water is to be added in the mixture to make it in the ration 2 : 1, therefore, 56/24+y = 2/1; 56= 2 (24+y); 56= 48+2y; -2y = 48-56 =-8; -2y= -8; y=4 litres.
(Cross checking: 24+4 =28 is half of 56)
Q 36) The average of 101 consecutive odd numbers is 303. Find the largest number ?
Ans: 403
Solution: This question is taken from ‘Arithmetic Progression’. Suppose, first odd number is (2n+1); then, 2nd odd number will be (2n+1)+(2-1)(2)= 2n+3; 3rd odd number will be (2n+1)+(3-1)(2)= 2n+5 and 101th odd number will be (2n+1)+(101-1)(2)= (2n+1) + 200= 2n+201
We know that in Arithmetic Progression Sum Sn=(N/2)(a+L)
Here, N= Total odd numbers; a=first term; L= last term.
Sn =(101/2) (2n+1 + 2n+201) = (101/2) (4n+202) = 101(2n+101)
Now, Average = Sum/N; Sum/101; 303= 101(2n+101)/101; 303 = 2n +101; -2n=101-303; -2n= -202; n=101
Last term (or largest term) = 2n+201 = 2×101 + 201= 40

Ans: Son-in-law
Solution:
(1) Bhanu is father of Kamlesh and has two children. Kamlesh is brother of Ritu. It means Kamlesh and Ritu are brother and sister and both are children of Bhanu.
(2) Ritu is daughter of Santosh. It means Santosh is wife of Bhanu and also mother of Kamlesh.
(3) Aryan is grandson of Santosh and son of Sunny. It means Sunny is husband of Ritu and son-in-law of Bhanu.
Q 38) Ajay walks at a speed of 4 km/hr. He doubles his speed after reaching exactly half way. He walks for 12 hours in all. What is the total distance travelled by him ?
Ans: 64 km
Solution:
Suppose, the total distance travelled by Anil is D and he travelled D/2 distance by a speed 4 km/hr. Time taken T1=(D/2)/4=D/8
Now he doubles his speed= 8 km/hr and travelled another D/2 distance. Time taken T2=(D/2)/8=D/16.
As given in the question, total time taken= 12 hours.
It means, T1 + T2 =D/8 + D/16 =12; 3D/16=12; 3D=16×12=192; D=64
Question No. 39 to 42:
Q 39) Aman can go downstream thrice as fast as he can go upstream between two specific points on a river. If the river flows at 8 km/hr, what is the speed of the boat in still water ?
Ans: 16 km/hr
Solution:
Suppose boat’s velocity in still water is ‘y’ km/hr. The velocity of river is 8 km/hr. Therefore, the velocity of boat’s in Downstream ‘D’= y+8 and in Upstream ‘U’ = y-8.
Given in the question, D=3U, therefore, y+8=3(y-8); y+8=3y-24; y-3y=-24-8; -2y=-32; y=16 km/hr
